8. college tips!!

Here are some informal college tips

For general college

  • if you have a communal bathroom, don't use bar soap because then you will have no place to put it and it will make your shower caddy very messy
  • check where the buildings are before you make your schedule so you have enough time to get to each class
  • walk through your schedule before school starts- not just the buildings but the specific rooms- some buildings are complicated
  • see if there's a meme page
  • become friends with professors that you really gravitate towards- talk to them outside of class
  • make friends with the building managers
  • you can attain success without foiling the success of others
  • don't litter
  • use all the resources on campus- libraries, rec centers, markets, other people etc.
  • even if there's no sparknotes there's probably a summary somewhere
  • make friends with people in your major
  • don't really bring lots of t-shirts -- you will get a million anyway
  • ^^^ same with cups
  • you don't have to be BFFs with your roommate, but be civil
  • check out rate my professor when making your schedule
  • go to office hours if you need help!

For SMU

  • look at the facebook meme page ;)
  • bring a sweater- you never know which classes are cold
  • become part of clubs at the beginning of the year- it's easier to join earlier and a lot of them have application deadlines
  • know the layout of the building you're going to be in the most
  • be careful with the furniture in your room- don't get fined!
  • there will be plenty of opportunities for you to go out- don't feel rushed to go out every day before school even starts
  • go to corral and all that jazz
  • when you separate into RUG groups for the first time- pay attention!!!!! don't get lost like me
  • make sure to waive your health insurance
  • be nice to your RA
  • might as well just download groupme now
  • it might also be a good idea to download SMU mobile, smu rewards, tapride, and DUO Mobile if you are doing work study
  • use the random booths in the commons hallways- you can do homework and will also be a familiar face to people walking by
  • have a lot of red white and blue clothing
  • if you're planning to rush- start networking now
  • boulevard at least once to see how it is

Always with love, Isabella Montague
